Divisions
BLASTBALL
($60.00; 4-5 year olds, Not in Kindergarten)
Blastball is a fun, basic introduction to T-Ball. In Blastball,
kids hit a spongy ball from a stationary tee, run to the base, and
stomp on it to make it honk. Teams are smaller, games are shorter,
a numbered T-shirt and cap uniform is provided, and everyone has
fun! Baseball glove and helmet are not required.
T-BALL
($80.00 for children in Kindergarten.)
T-Ball offers players the opportunity to learn, develop and
practice fundamental baseball skills. The aim of our T-Ball program
is for players to have fun while learning some basic skills at
hitting, throwing, fielding and running. The games are held on a
small diamond and use a special “soft” official ball. The ball is
hit from a stationary tee (hence the name). Coaches are allowed on
the field and designated parents help by taking turns umpiring. All
players are on the field and rotate positions. The season
begins in April and games are played in the early weekday evenings
or on
weekends at Trimble Park (8th Avenue and Trimble). Team
equipment, shirts and baseball caps are provided but players
must have their own baseball glove and batting helmet. T-Ball is
for 5, 6 and 7-year olds, but 5-year olds must be in kindergarten
to play.
MINORS C and B
(Minors C - $100.00; for children in Grade 1 or 6 years
old on April 30, 2011 (born earlier than May 1, 2005)
(Minors B - $125.00; for children in Grade 2 or 7 years
old on April 30, 2011 (born earlier than May 1, 2004)
Minors C/B offers players the opportunity to continue to learn,
develop and practice fundamental baseball skills. The aim of our
Minor C/B program is for players to have fun while continuing to
learn basic skills at hitting, throwing, fielding and running. The
games are held on a small diamond and use a special “soft” official
ball. The players are introduced to the pitching
machine. The machine is set to lob the balls over the home
plate at an easy speed and with some arc (with more speed and less
arc in MINORS B). After 5 pitches the T is brought in to
ensure the player hits the ball and gets on base. Coaches are
allowed on the field and designated parents help by taking turns
umpiring. All players are on the field and rotate
positions. All players hit once through the order
in each half inning. No outs are called in MINORS C but clear
outs are called in MINORS B. The season begins in April and
games are played on Wednesday evenings or on Saturday mornings at
Trimble Park (8th Avenue and Trimble). Team equipment, shirts and
baseball caps are provided but players must have their own
baseball glove and batting helmet. Players should be prepared
to attend one practice a week of 1 – 1.5 hours.
MINORS A
($150.00 for children in Grade 3 or children who are 8 on April
30, 2011 (born ealier than May 1, 2003). Many children who
are 9 on April 30, 2011 will stay in Minors A for a second year.
Reasons for this will be because the parent or League feels
the child needs another year to develop their skills; OR the child
wants to stay with their friends.
Minors A offers players the opportunity to continue to learn,
develop and practice fundamental baseball skills. The aim of our
Minors A program is for players to have fun while learning more
intermediate skills at hitting, throwing, fielding , running and
baseball strategy. The players continue to use the pitching machine
but player pitch will be introduced with the intent that by the
time the season finishes the games will be entirely player
pitch. The catcher's position is played and stealing bases
allowed. In Minors A an umpire will be provided to call
strikes and balls. Not all players may bat through the inning
as run limits are imposed. Coaches are not allowed on the
field. Ten players are allowed on the field and all players
must be evenly rotated through all the positions. All players
are on the field and rotate positions. The season begins in
April and games are played on Wednesday evenings or on Saturday
mornings at Carnarvon Park (16th and McKenzie). Team equipment,
shirts and baseball caps are provided but players must have
their own baseball glove and batting helmet. Players should
be prepared to attend one practice a week of 1 – 1.5 hours.
MAJORS B
$150.00 for children in Grade 4 and 5. Children should be
9 as of April 30, 2011 (born earlier than May 1, 2002).
Children who are 8 on April 30, 2011 may play up to Majors B
IF they attend the assessment and are selected for a team)
Majors B is the first division where batters face players
pitching with regulation hard baseballs. The emphasis is on
development of baseball skills and team play. For safety reasons,
all players applying to Majors B must attend the Major B
evaluations. These evaluations are also used to help balance the
teams in this division. Balanced teams take precedence over team
mate requests. Major B games are 5 innings, and there maybe
limits on the runs per inning, except in the fifth inning, which
has unlimited runs. Pitching limits must be adhered to for player
protection. There are usually 12 players per team. All players are
rotated through the infield and outfield positions and all players
bat through the rotation. Active parent participation through
rotational scorekeeping and field preparation duty is mandatory for
Majors B Parents. The season begins in early April and
games are played at the Majors B Diamond at Jericho Park
(west of the Jericho Hostel) or a Carnarvon Park (16th
and McKenzie) in the early evening or on Saturdays. There are
usually 1 practice and 2 games per week. Team equipment, caps and
socks are provided. The team jersey and a belt require a $50
refundable uniform deposit paid at the time of registration.
